The Mifgash program provides an exceptional opportunity for global participants to connect with their Israeli counterparts, enriching their journey with unforgettable experiences. Annually, over 8000 Israelis take part in this program, reaching a participation of 120,000 individuals to date.
Mifgash has been a cornerstone of Taglit’s educational program since our inception. With the Land of Israel as their backdrop, participants enjoy many formal and informal opportunities for building friendships, examining varying perspectives, and exploring shared values and ideals. During Mifgash, Israelis learn more about Jewish life outside of Israel, while participants from abroad discover what life as a Jew in Israel entails.
Mifgash strengthens Jewish identity and its inherent connection to the Holy Land, and it promotes lasting friendships between Israelis and the participants from the Diaspora. Some participants from overseas even return to Israel as lone soldiers in the IDF, while others make Aliya.
In the aftermath of October 7th, conversations between Taglit participants and Israeli soldiers become even more impactful. These interactions provide a window into Israeli society and the realities of life on the front lines. Sharing experiences of the soldiers fosters a deeper understanding of the complexities of the region, the sacrifices made, and the ever-present desire for peace. This firsthand perspective adds a powerful layer to the Taglit experience.
A recent survey with Mifgash alumni following Oct. 7th showed that the majority (96%) of participants received messages of concern from friends abroad, sparking reciprocal empathy. Sharing experiences and resources became even more important. Over half (57%) reported international friends confiding in them about their own challenges, deepening understanding through video calls. This survey showed that 61% shared informational materials to raise awareness. Moreover, 77% observed their overseas friends actively advocating for Israel on social media, demonstrating a surge in unity and solidarity. These findings solidify the importance of Taglit trips. The bonds formed strengthen Jewish unity, showcasing the community’s resilience during crisis and highlighting the power of these connections for mutual support and solidarity.
